A Little Fall Decorating

Fall Decorating

Yes, it’s true, I am a little tardy for fall decorating.

As much as I love the crisp weather in fall, I wasn’t quite ready to embrace it.

It took a shopping trip with a great friend to be inspired.

We saw the most amazing pumpkins on our road trip.

Orange, Grey, White… you name it, we saw it!

The next day I headed back to go on a pumpkin shopping spree.

Now that I’ve gathered my pumpkins I am more than ready for fall.

The front entry was the first to get a “Wicked” update.

Fall Decorating

A few years ago I found this painted “Wicked Witch” sign.

It’s always a staple at the front door for Halloween.

Fall Decorating

The pumpkins’ colors and markings are as if an artist painted them.

Who knew pumpkins could be so beautiful?

Fall Decorating

If you know me, you know I have a major crush on Hydrangeas.

Hands down they are my favorite flower.

Not only are they beautiful in spring, but they are wonderful cut and dried too.

I wanted to find a cone shape container for them.

Luckily, I purchased Jennifer Carroll’s, Celebrating Everyday Life, magazine today.

Inside she has a tutorial for a chicken wire cone.

Perfect!

Fall Decorating

Thanks Jennifer!

I was able to make it in about 20 minutes.

It’s a little quirky which adds to the “Wicked Witch” theme.

By the way… if you haven’t subscribed to Jennifer’s gorgeous magazine, you may want to check it out.

I am happy I did!

🙂

Would you like to come in?

When you step inside…

BEWARE!

Fall Decorating

Ally will be peeking around the corner to be the first to greet you.

Once you’ve given her all of the “love” you can muster up,

you will see a little fall flavor added throughout.

Fall Decorating

The dried lavender is from my garden and the pumpkin was a dollar store purchase.

In the kitchen you will find more hydrangeas.

Wooden Flower Box

The tutorial for this box is coming soon.

My dining room has a centerpiece this year.

Dollar store pumpkins mixed with moss, dried potpourri, and candles

make a simple fall display.

Head to the back patio,

and

Morning Glories will greet you.

Performing with their watercolor petals they put on an unforgettable show.

Fall Decorating

At mid-day they disappear.

No one knows what colors will be on display the next day.

I hope you enjoyed this little “late” tour of my fall decorating.

Kitchen Before and After

Kitchen Makeover

Today I am overwhelmed!

Everyone that stopped by,

commented,

and offered encouragement for sharing my

Kitchen Home Tour

has left me feeling so blessed.

I appreciate you all from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you for your encouragement to keep writing, creating, and being me!

With that said, I wanted to answer your questions regarding my kitchen.

Remember when I said there was a lot of Elbow Grease involved?

Let me show you the kitchen before and after

Kitchen Makeover

Here is where we began 6 years ago…

Kitchen Before Photo

We stripped wallpaper and painted with

Benjamin Moore, White Dove.

I wanted an all white kitchen, with white walls and white cabinets…

and a pop of contrast with dark floors and counter-tops.

We removed a couple of cabinet doors

Home Tour Kitchen

Because the kitchen is small, I wanted open shelving to give the illusion of more space.

I also like the fact that it is easy to get to all of my daily dishes without opening and closing cabinet doors.

The Builder Grade Cabinets

were sanded, primed, and painted

with Benjamin Moore, White Dove.

The appliances were replaced

Kitchen Before

with stainless steel.

The oven was a Craigslist purchase.

Home Tour Kitchen

The dishwasher remained and is black.

(It works great, so until it dies, it will stay).

Kitchen Before

Next, we added new hardware in an oil rubbed bronze finish,

spray painted the hinges with

an oil rubbed bronze color,

and installed new flooring.

Home Tour Kitchen

The flooring looks like natural wood,

but is laminate by Quick-Step in Dark Wenge Wide Planks.

The kitchen peninsula was wrapped in thin wood.

Kitchen

and the baseboards were not as wide as I would prefer.

Kitchen

So we added 5 1/4″ baseboards painted in Benjamin Moore, White Dove.

Kitchen

I also wanted a chalkboard, so I thought this was the perfect spot.

Notice how we bumped the baseboard trim out to look like the

cabinet was built into the wall.

Moving back to the Peninsula

I wanted an updated, custom look with the peninsula area.

The thin board seemed cheap to me.

I know I am on a budget,

but hey,

it doesn’t have to look like it, right?

Kitchen After

So we added bead-board and framed it out with wood trim.

Here’s a closer look…

Kitchen After

Whew!

In my next post I will share with you how I turned my white laminate counter-top

into a dark slate.

Home Tour Kitchen

I hope you enjoyed the kitchen before and after transformation!

Have a beautiful day!

Enjoy!

Kitchen Home Tour

Home Tour Kitchen

As I was enjoying my time cutting hydrangeas,

getting them ready to bring inside,

I thought about you.

Interior Kitchen Hydrangea

I thought about things you might like, and what I like.

I thought how much I enjoy going to others blogs and seeing the interiors of their beautiful homes.

There are some gorgeous ones out there!

It’s almost as if they invite me in for a drink.

Beverage Tray

I get to know a bit about them without them even saying a word.

It’s pretty amazing how an interior can say so much about a person

where they have traveled,

what colors they like,

if they have a vibrant or relaxed personality,

if they appreciate art…

and the list goes on.

My thoughts on this made me think of you.

I haven’t shared much of my interior with you.

Is there a reason?

Oh yes, there is…

FEAR!

I want you to enjoy it…

I want you to like it…

an interior is a reflection of who we are, and you know, it’s hard to put myself out there.

Yes, I have a blog and write publicly,

but…

I’m always a little nervous to share.

So…

Here goes…

Let me invite you into my kitchen

The beginning of my Home Tour.

Come on in…

Home Tour Kitchen

I chose this house because of the open floor plan.

The kitchen is filled with natural light as windows surround the space.

Home Tour Kitchen

It’s not a large kitchen, but large enough.

At a later date I will share with you where this kitchen began.

Home Tour Kitchen

It took much effort, paint, and elbow grease.

All of it on a little budget.

Home Tour Kitchen

I wanted to create a Coastal Cottage kitchen.

A kitchen with a relaxed feel.

Home Tour Kitchen

Where you can sit and have a meal

Home Tour Kitchen

and enjoy this spot in Georgia that is a little like Paradise.

Home Tour Kitchen

Thanks for coming in!

Home Tour Kitchen

There’s still a lot I would love to do in here.

If you look close you can find the unfinished projects – still in the works.

I am a little quirky that way…

I put my unfinished pieces where I want them in my home.

This is motivation to get it all done.

I can’t wait to show you what my kitchen looked like before and how I achieved

this look on a little budget.

I am glad I cut my hydrangeas – it made me overcome a fear.

I hope you are glad I cut them too.

Enjoy!
